How the score is worked out
On top of the weighted average, two penalties apply: closeout risk when height is crammed into a
short period (deep-water steepness H / 1.56·T² above 0.026), and size ceilings —
a knee-high tidy day can never out-score an overhead groundswell, however glassy it is.
Wind is judged against the direction this beach actually faces, inferred here from terrain height around the shoreline, so “offshore” means offshore at this coast rather than a raw compass bearing.
